 Qualtrics

Qualtrics is the new UW System online survey tool, which offers many options that weren’t available in our previous product, the WebSurveys tool. As of 6/1/09 you will not be able to create new surveys with the WebSurvey System. You will be able to access your survey results from within the WebSurvey System until 10/1/09.

To get started with Qualtrics, go http://www.uweauclaire.qualtrics.com and log in with your UWEC username and password.  After logging in, you will see the My Surveys page.  To create a survey, click on the Create Survey tab and choose the Quick Survey Builder (Recommended) option.

For additional assistance, please visit the LTS Online Help website, call the LTS Help Desk at 836-5711, or stop down to Old Library 1106. You can also request a customized workshop or one-on-one training or register for various scheduled Qualtrics workshops.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are we getting a new survey tool?
Qualtrics is the new UW System online survey tool, which offers many options that weren’t available in the WebSurveys product. Qualtrics has a built in HTML editor that allows you to embed images, video, and change fonts and formatting by using a menu bar rather than having to know HTML code; libraries for storing surveys, questions, and images; an abundance of question types; advanced data analysis tools; an SPSS export; and the carrying forward of choices.  In addition, it is more cost effective to adopt Qualtrics than to maintain the WebSurveys program.

Can you create surveys for me?
No. Unfortunately we do not have the resources to create surveys in Qualtrics for students, faculty, or staff. We offer training, in the form of workshops and one-on-one consultations, where we can show students, faculty, and staff how to create their own surveys.

But I have surveys with hundreds of questions…what am I supposed to do?
We encourage faculty and staff to make use of their department resources; we can teach custom training sessions for a department. Faculty, staff, and students can easily share surveys in Qualtrics (e.g., a department ADA can create a Qualtrics survey and then copy the survey to a faculty or staff member, putting the survey distribution and results solely in the hands of the faculty member. Alternatively, the sharing feature can be used instead of the copy feature, if collaboration on survey creation, distribution, and analysis is required).

I want to pay someone else to create Qualtrics surveys for me… Send your request to helpdesk@uwec.edu or call 836-5711 and we’ll let you know if any BITS/Help Desk employees are interested in freelance work. The cost and timeline will be determined between you, the client, and the BITS/Help Desk employee.

Qualtrics Workshop Descriptions

You can request a customized workshop or one-on-one training or register for various scheduled Qualtrics workshops.

Qualtrics Basics

This workshop focuses on how to create a basic survey, including adding various question types, modifying survey options, adding page breaks and skip logic (called page conditions in WebSurvey), distributing the survey, viewing results, and exporting data. This workshop emphasizes the strengths of the Qualtrics program, including an HTML editor for formatting questions, a powerful results view, an SPSS export, and more. This workshop touches on distributing a survey (anonymous access, single or multiple response, via the general survey distribution link and the prevent ballot box stuffing options), viewing results, and exporting data. Restricting survey access to certain people (e.g., for voting) is accomplished via a Qualtrics panel and the survey mailer, which is addressed in the Qualtrics Advanced: Distributing & Sharing workshop.

Qualtrics Advanced: Creating & Activating Surveys

Building off the Qualtrics Basics workshop, this class covers how to use additional question types and advanced features such as question blocks, randomization within blocks, survey flow, carry forward choices (called piping in WebSurveys), recoding values, and sharing and copying surveys.

Qualtrics Advanced: Distributing & Sharing

Restricting survey access to certain people (e.g., for voting) is accomplished via a Qualtrics panel and certain options in the survey mailer. This demonstration will explain the four main settings for sending surveys using Survey Mailer:
•          Single Response, User Identified
•          Single Response, Anonymous Access Allowed
•          Multiple Response, User Identified
•          Multiple Response, Anonymous Access Allowed
This demonstration focuses on panels, distributing surveys using survey mailer, sending reminder and thank you messages, and sharing your survey so you can collaborate with others. We’ll also touch on using one survey with multiple response sets, or buckets, for partitioning and analyzing your data.

Qualtrics Advanced: Analyzing Results

Qualtrics has a powerful results view in which you can immediately see frequencies, distributions, and basic descriptive statistics for your data. In addition, this demonstration will show how you can easily create graphs and tables, filter by subgroups, and work with a variety of other export options for your data and your reports.
