Quota Information: Home Drive (H:)
Instructors, staff and students are originally allocated 500 MB of storage space on their Home drive. Students are granted a one time increase to 1GB while Instructors and staff may request increases on an as needed basis.. Any requests for additional space should be directed to the , 836-5711.
Quota Increases
- Students: No increases. Call the to discuss other options.
- Instructors: Standard increase available once every 30 days.
- Staff: Standard increase available once every 30 days.
Here are three different methods to determine how much space you have remaining on your H:drive, do one of the following:

Storage Increase Request for Your Home Drive (H:)
Instructor and staff quotas are initially created with a quota of 400 MB. A standard increase can be requested every 30 days. To request a quota increase, contact the Help Desk at 836-5711.
Student quotas are established by the student senate. The current quota for students is fixed at 400MB.

Description: Department Drive (S:)
The department drives are designed to facilitate file sharing among department members.
Folders and files may be set up as private, or set up with permissions for sharing with colleagues.

There is no quota on any folder on the department drive. However, since university storage resources are finite and demand is increasing, it is important to use all storage areas wisely. Academic multimedia resources should be stored on the Archve Drive.

- From University computers on campus: First time access from a Windows computer requires you to the drive.Thereafter, the computer will connect to your S:drive when you log on to the network. Mac users may access the drive by using connect to server and can add to favorites for future access.
- From off campus or personally-owned computers:

TreeSize Pro Analysis: Department Drive (S:)
TreeSize Professional is designed to provide information about files which will help you decide whether to delete them, move them to another location, or keep them in their current location. A TreeSize Pro analysis of the S:drive can report the size of your particular department's folder and its subfolders. If you have a subfolder you want to analyze, you can right click on the folder and select TreeSize Pro. You will only be able to view information on folders to which you have permissions.

Description: Projects Drive (P:)
This storage area provides instructors, staff and students, a large amount of storage space for projects. Historically, the drive has been used for completing academic video assignments. However, the drive is available for any project that requires a large amount of storage space and has a specific due date. Individuals may create their own folder through a web interface and instructors have the additional privilege of creating class folders. Class folders may be group folders for group projects or student folders for individual class assignments. The project drive is uniquely characterized by its automated folder management system.
Briefly, the automated features are as follows:
- All folders are assigned a deletion date
- Personal folders – Students choose 1-6 months; Instructors and Staff choose 1-12months.
- Class folders – All class folders and subfolders, which may be individual or group folders, expire 60 days after the end of the term.
- Resource folders –All class folders will be provided with a resource subfolder that expires at the time of the class folder, 60 days after the end of the term.
- All folders are assigned a quota
- Personal folders are set with a 60 GB quota
- Class member folders have a 60 GB quota, while group folders have a 120GB quota
- An automated email is sent to folder owners and group members explaining how to access the folder.
- Warning emails prior to folder deletion occur each week for the 4 weeks prior to the deletion date.
- Owners of personal folders receive warning emails.
- The instructor of a class folder will receive warning emails. The individual students do not.
- Folder owners will receive warning emails as the folder quota reaches 85%, 95% and 100% quota.
- The individual of a group, who is working on the project at the time the quota percentage is reached will receive the warning email.

Description: People Pages (L:)
This web space is intended to be used for academic information related to your studies or employment at UW-Eau Claire. All students, instructors, and staff members can use this space to create a website. These are referred to as People Pages.
Audio/video files linked from these pages should be stored on the drive for web storage of multimedia files.
To request space for a web page visit the and register for a web account by selecting "Web accounts" from the menu on the left.

The quota for a personal web page is 25 MB. An email notification is sent when you reach 85% of the quota. Instructors, staff and students may request a standard increase once every 30 days.

It is recommended you keep your storage space up to date and do not store large PSD or TIFF files on this drive. These production files should be stored in your project folder. The files displayed from your website should be in compressed formats such as jpg or gif files.

Description: Instructor & Student Drive (W:)
The W: drive facilitates collaboration between instructors and students for class work. The drive is organized by department. Instructors and students store and/or exchange academic files on this drive. Due to extensive use and the tremendous growth in the use of large files, it is important for instructors to review the content in their folders and to remove student files at the end of each term.. The Archive drive should be used to store large resource collections or any student work that instructors would like to save.
Do not store any FERPA sensitive documents on the W:drive.
Examples for use:
- Out boxes for delivering files to students
- In boxes for students to drop off completed assignments
- Storage of compressed file formats such as jpeg, wma, wmv (These are appropriate formats for delivering the final production for a video, audio, photo or other multimedia assignment.)

Description: Archive Drive
This space is designated for academic resources requiring long term storage and copyright security. This storage space is available for large multimedia files that support an instructors curricular and research projects. Each instructor or staff member may have 50 GB of storage by making a request by calling the .
An Extended Service Level Agreement (SLA) is available for departments with data storage requirements exceeding 50 GB. The SLA will include:
a. Amount of storage space required (in 1 TB increments)
b. Annual chargeback for storage space based on five year amortized cost of storage space. Actual cost to be determined at the time of SLA signature. Example: on 1/3/2010 cost is $165 per TB, per year.
c. Extensis Portfolio usage agreement.
d. Number of Extensis Portfolio client licenses required.
e. Annual chargeback for Extensis Portfolio client license.

Every student, instructor (including emeritus) and staff member has a UWEC email account. Everyone should check their UWEC email account on a regular basis as it is a common means of University communication. If you choose, you may * your UWEC email to another email account.
Alumni will have access to their UWEC email account for up to 1 year after graduation. Before this expires, they may also sign up for the Blugold For Life forwarding service to forward emails to another account. The Blugold For Life service does not have an expiration.

Quota Information: Email
All accounts begin with a 500 MB quota.When you use 480MB, you will receive an email notification that your space is approaching your quota. Once you have reached 490 MB, you can no longer send email. When you reach 500 MB, you will neither receive nor be able to send email. Quota increases are available. Students are granted a one time increase to 1GB. Instructors and staff are granted increases on an as needed basis. To request an increase, call the Help Desk, 836-5711.
Using webmail, you may hover over your name at the top of the left panel and a meter will appear telling you how much of your quota is used.

How to Access Your Email
UWEC Webmail is the standard for accessing your UWEC email on and off campus. Webmail can be accessed from any computer that has an internet connection and a up-to-date web browser. To access Webmail, use your web browser to navigate to http://webmail.uwec.edu
Outlook - University owned office Windows computers will have the Outlook email client available for use. This software offers access to University email while also providing additional tools that instructors and staff will find useful for inter-campus communication. Outlook is not currently available in lab and classroom environments. You will find the application in the in the All Programs menu of your Start menu. Just look for the Microsoft Office 2007 folder in the Common Applications folder.
Entourage - University owned office Macintosh computers will have the Outlook email client available for use. This software offers access to University email while also providing additional tools that instructors and staff will find useful for inter-campus communication. Outlook is not currently available in lab and classroom environments. You will find the application in the Applications folder of your Macintosh HD. Just look for the Microsoft Office 2008 folder.
