Reef Team Members:
* Note:  the order of the member list corresponds to the group picture, starting with the front row going from the right to the left, and then the back row from right to left.

Tera Maldonado – Tera is a newly graduated UW-Eau Claire Blugold who has been involved with the aquaria for seven years.  Tera graduated this December, of 2007, with a Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Biology, with a focused minor in Marine Biology.  Tera is the Reef Team leader who trained in the new teammates to take over the responsibilities of the aquaria after she graduates.  The trained responsibilities included the maintenance of the Reef Tank and the Invertebrate Tank, as well as continuing with new additions to the tanks.  Throughout the fall semester of ’07, Tera was working on designing Reef Team t-shirts that will be available for anyone to purchase.  For more information, click here.

Todd Wellnitz – Todd is an assistant professor at UW-Eau Claire in Community Ecology and Aquatic Invertebrate Biology.  Todd has been the mentor of the Reef Team for numerous years and he will continue to oversee the team’s maintenance of the aquaria as well as projects that will involve educating the community and other students.  Todd’s dog, Misty, is also part of the Reef Team; she helps Todd supervise the team’s work = )

Ashley Speziale – Ashley is a senior this year and will be graduating in May of 2008.  Ashley is majoring in Biology with a focused minor in Pre-Professional Health Sciences.  Ashley joined the Reef Team this past summer of ’07 and she plans to continue working with the team until she graduates in May.  Ashley researched the organisms in the tank over the summer and used her research, as well as additional research from another teammate, to create the Reef Team Webpage.  The webpage is directed towards students as well as a general audience that is interested in marine biology or aquaria in general.

Andrew Barta – Andy is a junior this year and is studying Ecology and Wildlife Biology as a comprehensive major.  Andy joined the Reef Team this past summer of ’07 and he plans to continue working with the team because of his interest in marine biology.  Andy is currently working on a project that will be directed towards a younger age group, but all age groups are welcome.  The project will involve an interactive educational poster board where students/children can visit the UW-Eau Claire campus to learn about our aquaria and the organisms within the aquaria.  The poster board will be located on the third floor of the Phillips Building, in the Biology Department near the aquaria.  To view a map of the UW-Eau Claire lower campus, click here.

Mark Saltzman – Mark is a junior this year who is studying Computer Engineering with focused minors in Math and Physics.  Mark’s interest in aquaria and marine biology provoked his interest in becoming a member of the Reef Team at the beginning of the fall semester of ‘07.  Mark looks forward to learning more about the organisms in our aquaria as well as the maintenance involved with the aquaria so that he can eventually begin an aquarium of his own.  Mark plans to continue working with the Reef Team during the spring semester of ’08, and possibly the following year until he graduates.

Brian Pauley – Brian is a sophomore this year who is studying Biology with a focused minor in Business.  Brian joined the Reef Team this past summer of ’07 and he plans to continue working with the team during the spring semester of 2008.  Brian is currently working on creating an informational photo album of the organisms found in the aquaria with the help of other teammates.  The album will provide a ‘hands-on’ booklet of information for visitors to use while viewing the aquaria, and it will be available near the aquaria on the third floor of the Phillips Building.  To view a map of the UW-Eau Claire lower campus, click here.

Nicole Lay (not in the picture) – Nicole is a senior this year who is studying a comprehensive major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.  Nicole joined the Reef Team this past summer of ’07 and continued helping with the daily maintenance of the aquaria throughout the fall semester of ’07.  Nicole assisted in a bake sale fundraiser at the beginning of the fall semester that helped fund the addition of new organisms to the tank.
