Welcome to the Department of Biology. Here you will find information about
our degree programs, coursework, collaborative research with
faculty, and other opportunities for students. Our
program is designed to provide students with the necessary skills to integrate,
interpret and translate biological phenomena so they can use this information to make meaningful decisions in their lives and careers.
UWEC Biology Students traveled to the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research at the University of Minnesota to learn first hand how cutting edge brain-imaging research is conducted. Students got a primer on NMR and MRI and were introduced to BOLD-fMRI (see image above), which measures brain activation due to changes in blood oxygenation. |
