WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD ANNOUNCES TEAM AWARD WINNERS

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – UW-Eau Claire women’s track and field coach Chip Schneider recently announced the team award winners for the 2008 season.

Liz Kooistra (Jr.-Lakeville, Minn.) was named the team’s Most Valuable Performer. At the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championship, Kooistra earned All-American honors three times, finishing in second place in the 400-meter dash, sixth in the distance medley relay and seventh in the 4x400-meter relay. At the NCAA Outdoor Championship she took home All-American honors in the 400-meter dash with a fourth place finish with a time of 55.68, a school record. Kooistra also earned conference champion honors in the 400-meter dash at the indoor and outdoor championships.

Amy Oldenburg (So.-Minocqua, Wis./Lakeland Union) was named the Newcomer of the Year. Oldenburg finished in second place in the triple jump and sixth place in the 55-meter hurdles at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Championship. At the WIAC Outdoor Championship she finished in eighth place in the 100-meter hurdles and triple jump, 13th place in the long jump and 15th in the high jump.

Claudia Borlee (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) was presented with the Captain Award which is given to the person who is more to the team than just the points.

The Blugolds finished with an overall record of 216-44-1. The team finished in 11th place at the NCAA Indoor Championship and tied for 18th at the Outdoor Championship. The Blugolds also finished in second place at the WIAC Outdoor and Indoor Championships and head coach Chip Schneider earned WIAC Coach of the Year honors for both seasons.
