FOUR NAMED COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Four UW-Eau Claire women’s track and field and cross county athletes have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 5 Women’s Track and Field/Cross Country College Division Teams, officials announced today.

Receiving first team honors were Liz Faller (Sr.-Marinette, Wis.) and Beth Lutz (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial). Both are now eligible to be selected for CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America honors, which will be announced in the next few weeks. Amber Hertz (Sr.-Baraboo, Wis.) and Hannah Humbach (So.-Madison, Wis./Abundant Life) were named second team All-District selections as well.

Faller, a Kinesiology major with a 3.98 cumulative GPA, earned All-American honors in the 100 and 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship this season, making her a three-time Outdoor All-American. Faller finished in second place in the 100-meter event, with a conference and school record time of 13.98. In the 400-meter hurdles, Faller took seventh with a time of 62.00. She earned All-American status two seasons ago in the 100-meter hurdles, and last season during indoor competition Faller earned All-American honors for a third place finish in the 55-meter hurdles. She also earned honors as team MVP twice in her career. Last season Faller was named a second team CoSIDA Academic All-American selection as well.

Lutz, who holds a 3.97 cumulative GPA and is majoring in Physics Education, earned All-American honors with a 29th place finish this season at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship, leading her team to an eighth place finish overall. She was selected as the team’s most valuable runner this season. She also helped her team to a first place finish at conference, which was the first time since 1985 the team won the title. Lutz finished in 9th place at the meet.

Humbach, a biochemistry/molecular biology major with a 3.96 cumulative GPA, finished as an All-American at the NCAA Indoor Championship with a sixth place finish in the distance medley relay. She was also the conference champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and took 13th place at the NCAA Outdoor Championship this year. Humbach also finished in 76th place at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship and 12th at the conference championship.

Hertz, a biochemistry major with a 3.91 cumulative GPA, is a four-time letterwinner for the cross country team. Hertz took 14th place at the conference championship and 199th place at the NCAA Division III Championship.

Lutz, Hertz and Humbach were also selected to the NCAA Division III All-Academic Team, presented by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
