SIX QUALIFY FOR NCAA OUTDOOR WOMEN’S TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS

EAU CLAIRE – Six members of the UW-Eau Claire women’s track and field team will compete at the 2007 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by UW-Oshkosh May 24-26.

Steph Barnes (Sr.-Sauk City/Sauk Prairie) will compete at her final NCAA Championship in the pole vault. The 2005 outdoor national champion and a three-time All-American, Barnes will enter as the fourth-ranked competitor in the field of 19. Barnes cleared 12-6 on two different occasions this season, March 31 at the Augustana (IL) Viking Olympics and April 14 at the Blugold Open.

Liz Faller (Sr.-Marinette) will look to replicate All-America honors in the 100-meter hurdles from a year ago. Faller is a two-time All-American achieving so as a member of the 4 x 400-meter relay team in 2005 and individually in the 100 hurdles last year when she finished fourth. Faller is ranked ninth in a field of 20 competitors with a time of 14.47 seconds set on April 21 at the Manitou Classis hosted at St. Olaf College (MN).

Paula Crossfield (Sr.-Madison/East) will attempt to earn All-America status for the second straight year in the discus. Last year Crossfield earned All-America status with a fifth-place finish in the discus. This weekend Crossfield will enter competition ranked 15th out of 19 competitors with a season-best throw of 145-3 set on May 12 at the UW-Oshkosh Last Chance Meet.

Jessica Owens (So.-Elm Grove/Brookfield East) returns to the NCAA Outdoor Championships attempting to earn All-America status after doing so her freshman season in 2005. Owens enters competition ranked sixth out of 17 competitors by clearing 5-6.5 on May 12 at the UW-Oshkosh Last Chance Meet.

Liz Kooistra (So.-Lakeville, MN) is also trying to repeat her All-America status from a season ago as she will compete in the 400-meter dash. Kooistra is ranked 12th out of 20 competitors in the field when she ran a school record 56.64 seconds set on April 14 at the Blugold Open.

Beth Lutz (So.-Eau Claire/Memorial) will compete at the NCAA Championships for the first time in her career when she will run in the 10,000-meter run. Lutz enters competition ranked ninth out of 18 runners by running a season-best 36:16.68 on April 27 at the Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Michigan.
