WOMEN’S TRACK FINISHES FOURTH AT WIAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

RIVER FALLS – The UW-Eau Claire women’s track and field team scored 110 points to finish fourth at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by UW-River Falls at Ramer Field.

The Blugolds finished 11 points behind River Falls who took third place with 121 points. UW-La Crosse claimed their second championship in the last three years with 204.3 points followed by UW-Oshkosh finishing second with 163 points.

Paula Crossfield (Sr.-Madison/East) earned her second medal in two days at her final WIAC Championship with a second place finish in the discus with a throw of 143-9.

Three Blugold high jumpers earned points led by Alicia Schuelke (So.-Gilman) who placed fourth clearing a height of 5-1.75. Jessica Owens (So.-Elm Grove/Brookfield East) and Megan Behl (Fr.-Watertown/Lakeside Lutheran) both tied for sixth place with a height of 4-11.75.

Bridget Wolfe (Jr.-Arcadia) finished the two-day heptathlon in seventh place with a combined point total of 3,592 points.

Beth Lutz (So.-Eau Claire/Memorial) finished second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:30.14. Christina Locke (Sr.-Racine/Horlick) finished fifth in both the 1,500 and 5,000-meter runs with times of 4:47.11 and 18:10.32, respectively.

Cassie Haak (Sr.-Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) won medals in the 800 and 1,500-meter runs. Haak finished seventh in the 800 with a time of 2:22.53 and eighth in the 1,500 in 4:49.43.

Shalene Huth (Sr.-Appleton/West) also earned two individual medals in her final WIAC Championship. Huth placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.66 seconds and eight in the 200-meter dash finishing in 26.15 seconds.

The 4 x 400-meter relay team finished in second place with a time of 4:01.10. The 4 x 100-meter relay team placed third crossing the finish line in 49.51 seconds.

The Blugolds return to the track next Friday, May 11 when they travel to Naperville, Illinois to compete in the North Central Last Chance Meet. Action is set to begin at 3:00 P.M.
