WOMEN’S TRACK COMPETES IN THREE DIFFERENT MEETS

EAU CLAIRE – The UW-Eau Claire women’s track and field team competed in three different track meets covering two time zones in one day as the team competed at the Drake Relays, the Kip Janvrin Open and the Gina Relays.

At the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa the 4 x 400-meter relay team of Liz Kooistra (So.-Lakeville, MN), Kjersten Holt (Jr.-Long Prairie, MN/LP Grey Eagle), Laura Broner (So.-Madison/Memorial) and Shalene Huth (Sr.-Appleton/West) finished 14th in a time of 3:56.30. The 4 x 100-meter relay team of Huth, Liz Faller (Sr.-Marinette), Holt and Kooistra also competed.

At the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson College (IA) Huth was the top Blugold finisher taking fourth place in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.90 seconds. Huth was the top Division III qualifier in the event finishing behind three NCAA Division I competitors. Holt also competed in the 100-meter dash finishing 12th with a time of 13.19 seconds. Broner finished sixth in the 400-meter dash crossing the finish line in 1:00.28. Holt and Huth also competed in the 200-meter dash with Holt finishing 13th in 26.57 seconds followed by Huth in 22nd place clocking in at 27.12. The meet featured 39 teams and 1,263 entries from schools of every NCAA and NAIA level.

At the Gina Relays hosted by NCAA Division II Hillsdale College (MI), Cassie Haak (Sr.-Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) recorded her fastest times of the year in both the 800 and 1,500-meter runs. Haak finished 17th in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:43.46. Haak placed 24th in the 800-meter run clocking in at 2:20.32. Christina Locke (Sr.-Racine/Horlick) competed in both events with Haak, finishing 14th in the 1,500 with a time of 4:42.87 and 27th in the 800 completing two laps in 2:20.55. Beth Lutz (So.-Eau Claire/Memorial) finished fourth in the 10,000-meter run in 36:16.38 followed by teammate Molly Warner (Jr.-Mosinee) who placed ninth with a time of 37:10.27

The rest of the Blugold squad will compete tomorrow at the UW-Oshkosh Open tomorrow. Action is set to begin at 11:00 AM.
