WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD FINISHES SECOND AT VIKING OLYMPICS

ROCK ISLAND, IL – Before the event was called off due to weather, the UW-Eau Claire women’s track and field teams took second at Augustana’s Viking Olympics by compiling 119 points.

Augustana College (IL) had 136.5 points for the top spot. Winona State (MN) finished third on a 116.5 score. Loras College (IA) had 67.5 points for fourth while Olivet Nazarene University (IL) placed fifth on 66 points.

Liz Faller (Sr.-Marinette) won two events today as Eau Claire’s lone double-champion. She took the 100-meter hurdles in 14.79 and the 400-meter hurdles in 65.83.

Hannah Humbach (Fr.-Madison/Abundant Life) placed runner-up in the 3000-meter steeplechase on an 11:43.9h time with Bridget Bocher (Sr.-Watertown) a spot behind her at 12:06.1h.

The 4x100-meter relay team grabbed third in 50.15. The squad consisted of Briana Berg (Fr.-Arcadia), Kjersten Holt (Jr.-Long Prairie, MN/LP Grey Eagle), Shalene Huth (Sr.-Appleton/West) and Anna Sutherland (So.-Arden Hills, MN/Roseville).

Eau Claire also found a lot of success in the field events with three champions. Tonya White (Fr.-Byron, MN) leapt 5.32 meters (17’5 ˝”) in the long jump for first. Steph Barnes (Sr.-Sauk City/Sauk Prairie) cleared 3.81 meters (12’6”) in the pole vault for her top placement. Jessica Owens (So.-Elm Grove/Brookfield East) then had a 1.60-meter (5’3”) high jump to claim that top prize.

Some Blugolds will go to the Falcon Open on Friday while others will head to the UW-Oshkosh Invite.
