WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD WINS BORDER BATTLE

NORTHFIELD, MN – With 189 points, the UW-Eau Claire women’s track and field team took St. Olaf’s Border Battle today at the Tostrud Center.

St. Thomas (MN) came in second with 174 points while UW-Stout collected 134. St. Olaf (MN) had a 118 score for fourth.

The Blugolds took a number of top places on the track. Shalene Huth (Sr.-Appleton/West) had a 7.43 55-meter dash while Laura Broner (So.-Madison/Memorial) won the 200-meter dash in 27.38. Liz Kooistra (So.-Lakeville, MN) had a 58.13 400-meter dash as Cassie Haak (Sr.-Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) ran the 1000-meter run in 3:05.43. The top four spots in the 3000-meter run went to Eau Claire with Beth Lutz (So.-Eau Claire/Memorial) and her 10:17.39 time sitting on top. Christina Locke (Sr.-Racine/Horlick) also won the 5000-meter run in 18:23.63.

The ‘A’ relay team won the 4x200-meter relay in 1:46.74 and the 4x400-meter relay in 4:00.60.

The field side saw some first place finishes as well. Jessica Owens (So.-Elm Grove/Brookfield East) had a 1.64 meter (5’ 4 ½”) high jump. Steph Barnes (Sr.-Sauk City/Sauk Prairie) won the pole vault on 3.69 meters (12’ 1 ¼”). Tonya White (Fr.-Byron, MN) went 5.18 meters (17’) in the long jump.

Friday the Blugolds will head to the UW-Stout Invite. After that there is only one more meet before the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Championships.
