WOMEN’S TRACK PLACES FIRST AT THE UW-WHITEWATER INVITE

WHITEWATER – The UW-Eau Claire women’s track and field team took home first place out of 13 teams with 155.5 points today at the UW-Whitewater Invitational at Kachel Fieldhouse.

UW-Stevens Point finished in the second place with 123 points. Winona State University (MN) was third with a score of 94.5. Carthage College placed fourth with 72.5 points and UW-Platteville was fifth with a score of 54.

Liz Faller (Sr.-Marinette, WI) took first place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.74. Faller was also victorious in the 55-meter hurdles event as she posted a winning time of 8.31. Liz Kooistra (So.-Lakeville, MN) won the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.98. Shalene Huth (Sr.-Appleton, WI/West) was the only Blugold to advance to the 55-meter dash finals, where she finished second with a time of 7.45.

The Blugolds swept the top-three spots in the one mile run as Christina Locke (Sr.-Racine, WI/Horlick) placed first with a time of 5:13.85, and Cassie Haak (Sr.-Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) finished second with a time of 5:19.25, and Hannah Humbach (Fr.-Madison, WI/Abundant Life) was third with a time of 5:21.54. Humbach also placed third in the 800-meter run, posting a time of 2:26.60. Beth Lutz (So.-Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) placed second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:24.47. The 4x400-meter relay “A” team was also victorious with a winning time of 4:00.51.

In the field events, Jessica Owens (So.-Elm Grove, WI/Brookfield East) won the high jump, clearing 5-1.75. The Blugolds took the top-two spots in the pole vault with Steph Barnes (Sr.-Sauk City, WI/Sauk Prairie) placing first, clearing 12-5.5 and Chelsea Becker (Sr.-Rice Lake, WI) finishing second, clearing a height of 11-11.75.

Tonya White (Fr.-Byron, MN) finished fifth in the long jump out of 37 competitors as she jumped a distance of 16-9.5. Paula Crossfield (Sr.-Madison, WI/East) placed fifth in both the shot put and the weight throw. She threw the shot put 38-4.25 and the weight throw a distance of 47-6.25.

The Blugolds will compete in the Warren Bowlus Open next Saturday in Menomonie. The event begins at 11 a.m.
