WOMEN’S TRACK PLACES SECOND AT BLUGOLD OPEN
EAU CLAIRE – The UW-Eau Claire women's track and field team placed second out of eight teams at the Blugold Open hosted here today at the Olson Complex. UW-La Crosse won the event with 223 points followed by the Blugolds with 119 points. Winona State (MN) followed closely behind the Blugolds with 107 points. All-American hurdler Liz Faller (Sr.-Marinette) advanced and won the finals of the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.43 seconds. The next-closest competitor was more than three-tenths of a second off Faller’s time. The Blugolds took first and second place in the one-mile run led by Mary Palmer (So.-Anoka) who clocked in at 5:22.90. Teammate Cassie Haak (Sr.-Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) finished second behind Palmer with a time of 5:23.70. The top two places of the 5,000-meter run were also taken by Blugolds as Beth Lutz (So.-Eau Claire/Memorial) won with a time of 18:03.65 followed by Molly Warner (Jr.-Mosinee) at 18:13.89. For the second meet in a row the Blugolds placed first and second in the pole vault led by Chelsea Becker (Sr.-Rice Lake) clearing 12-2. Steph Barnes (Sr.-Sauk City/Sauk Prairie) finished second clearing a height of 11-10. Alicia Schuelke (So.-Gilman) placed second in the high jump with a successful height of 4-11.75. Up next the Blugolds will travel to Whitewater to compete in the UW-Whitewater Invitational with a starting time slated for 10:00 A.M. Complete Results - KM -
