WOMEN’S TENNIS ANNOUNCES TEAM AWARD WINNERS

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – UW-Eau Claire women’s tennis head coach Craig Monson announced the team award winners for the 2007-08 season recently at the team’s end-of-year banquet.

Gina Dahl (So.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) was named Singles Most Valuable Player. The Blugold Award was also presented to Dahl, who received the honor for the second consecutive season. Dahl posted a record of 20-9 this season. Playing at No.2 singles, she went 19-9 and at No. 1 singles she recorded one additional victory.

The Doubles Most Valuable Player Award went to Kristie Carlson (Sr.-Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View). As part of two different doubles groups during the season, Carlson recorded an overall record of 19-8. With one of her partners, Brenna McCormick (So.-Greendale, Wis.) she accumulated an 11-4 record, including a record of 9-3 at No. 2 doubles and 2-1 at No. 1. With her other teammate, Erin Welch (So.-Tomah, Wis.), the duo went 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.

The Most Improved Award was given to Erin Welch who received it for the second year in a row. Welch recorded a 21-6 overall record in singles play, with a 9-3 record at No. 4 and a 12-3 record at No. 5. On the doubles side she was 13-8 playing with two different teammates.

Sarah Riordan (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./North) received the team’s Hustle Award for the second consecutive season. She was also presented with the Coach’s Award. Riordan posted marks of 11-17 on the singles side, 10-17 at No. 1 and 1-0 at No. 2, and a 15-11 overall record on the doubles side at No. 1 with her partner Dahl.

The Blugolds posted an overall record of 25-11 going 14-9 in dual meets and 5-1 in conference duals. The Blugolds finished second at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships.
