WOMEN'S TENNIS BEGINS SEASON WITH VICTORY

MILWAUKEE - The UW-Eau Claire Tennis got a solid start to the season by defeating Milwaukee School of Engineering 9-0 here today at McKinley Park.

Laura Geissler (Jr.-Coon Rapids, MN) and partner Kristie Carlson (So.-Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View) won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. Liz Deprey (So.-Green Bay/Notre Dame) and Brit Wagner (Fr.-La Crosse/Central) also took care of business with an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles while Kristin Neuman (So.-Green Bay/Ashwaubenon) and Lindsey Edson (So.-New Richmond) also defeated the MSOE pair 8-2 in No. 3 doubles.

All Blugold singles players won their matches in straight sets. Those who did not allow a single point in two 6-0 victories were No. 4 Alli Taplin (Jr.-Dayton, MN/Champlin Park), No. 2 Carlson and No. 3 Deprey. No. 1 Katie Kuzma (Sr.-Buffalo, MN) won 6-1 in both sets. No. 6 Neuman posted a 6-0 and a 6-1 victory. The most points allowed in a singles set was 2 points against No. 5 Whitney Hay (So.-New Richmond) while she triumphed 6-0 and 6-2.

Up next the Blugolds will travel tomorrow to UW-Whitewater for the Warhawk Invitational. Action is set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
