WRESTLING TOPPLES 24TH RANKED WARHAWKS

WHITEWATER – The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team took down No. 24 UW-Whitewater by a 21-18 margin tonight for its first conference dual meet of the season.

Eau Claire is now 1-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual meets and 5-2 in all dual meets.

Andy Miller (So.-Appleton/North) won his decision 8-2 in the 133 pound weight class. Lance Valiquette (Sr.-Auburn, WA) also won a decision at 157 pounds. His score was 4-2. The last Eau Claire decision was the 6-1 Joey Miller (Jr.-Lake Tomahawk/Lakeland Union) victory at 174 pounds.

The pins on the day belonged to Shane Brady (So.-Chetek) and Dave Vanevenhoven (Sr.-Appleton/Kaukauna). Brady’s was in 4:02 at the 141 pound class while Vanevenhoven’s came in 6:47 at 149 pounds.

The team will hit the mats again this weekend when they face St. Olaf (MN) on Saturday.
