THREE BLUGOLD WRESTLERS TAKE FIRST AT AUGGIE OPEN
MINNEAPOLIS – UW-Eau Claire wrestlers Josiah Miller (Jr.-Lake Tomahawk, WI/Lakeland Union) at 174 pounds, Andy Johnston (Fr.-St. Cloud, MN/St. Cloud Tech) at 141 pounds, and David Heser (So.-Tomah, WI) at 184 pounds each took first place in their respective brackets today at the Auggie-Brute-Adidas Open hosted by Augsburg College. The Blugolds had 13 wrestlers compete in the gold brackets. The top finisher in the gold bracket was Josiah Miller at 174 pounds as he took first place, going 4-0 on the day to take the title in his weight class. The next top Blugold finisher in the gold bracket was Justin Mc Auly (Sr.-Clintonville, WI) at heavyweight. Mc Auly went 3-1 to finish third. Dave Vanevenhoven (Sr.-Appleton, WI/Kaukauna) placed fourth, while Patrick Sensig (So.-Lyndon Station, WI/Mauston) and Lance Valiquette (Sr.-Auburn, WA) placed sixth, and Andy Miller (So.-Appleton, WI/North) placed eighth. Eau Claire had four wrestlers competing in the silver brackets. Josh Kasuboski (So.-Wautoma, WI) went 2-1 to place fifth. Shane Brady (So.-Chetek, WI) went 2-2 to place sixth and Carl Bamlet (Sr.-Hayfield, MN) also went 2-2 to place eighth. The Blugolds only had two wrestlers competing in the bronze brackets. Those two wrestlers both were the champions of their weight class. Andy Johnston went 3-0 to take the championship at 141 pounds. David Heser at 184 pounds also went 3-0 to take the title in his weight class. Next the Blugolds will travel to face No. 4-ranked Luther College on Tuesday night.
