WRESTLING TAKES DOWN ITASCA IN DUAL MEET

CAMERON – The UW-Eau Claire men’s wrestling team defeated Itasca Community College (MN) tonight by a score of 22-16 at Cameron High School.

The Blugolds have now won four of the five dual meets they have competed in this season, including the going 3-1 last weekend at the Lakeland Duals.

The Blugolds won six of the ten weight classes with Josiah Miller (Jr.-Lake Tomahawk, WI/Lakeland Union) at 174 pounds had the only pinfall for the Blugolds as he pinned Brady Bjornson at 4:28. It was Miller’s second pin of the season. Lance Valiquette (Sr.-Auburn, WA) at 157 pounds picked up his fourth win of the season, defeating Steve Merth in a major decision, 10-1.

Other Blugolds to pick up decision wins were Andy Miller (So.-Appleton, WI/North) at 133 pounds, Shane Brady (So.-Chetek, WI) at 141 pounds, Patrick Sensig (So.-Lyndon Station, WI/Mauston) at 149 pounds, and Jon Erickson (So.-Jim Falls, WI/Cornell) at 165 pounds.

Up next the Blugolds will compete in the Auggie-Brute-Adidas Open hosted by Augsburg College (MN) on Saturday. Action begins at 9 a.m.
