BLUGOLD WRESTLERS DROP CLOSE BATTLE TO OSHKOSH

EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team led UW-Oshkosh going into the final match but couldn't hold on losing 25-22 to the Titans here tonight at the McPhee Phy. Ed. Center.

The Blugolds went into the final match winning 23-19 but the Titans' heavyweight Nate Muckerheide pinned Larry Moen (Jr.-Madison/East) in 1:19 to earn the win for Oshkosh.

Derek Sikora (So.-Neillsville) ran his winning streak to eight matches with a win at 165 pounds. Sikora earned his third pin of the year when he pinned Oshkosh's John Simon in 1:57 to run his record to 15-4.

Nick Campbell (Sr.-Eden Prairie, MN/Maple Grove) ran his record to 14-3 overall with a 9-0 win at 197 pounds. Campbell had a take down in each of the first two periods and added a reversal and a near fall in the third period.

Dave Vanevenhoven (So.-Kaukauna) used two near falls to win 14-4 at 149 pounds and improve his record to 17-10 on the year. Troy Seubert (Sr.-Maple Grove, MN) used a takedown and a reversal in the final period to win 5-2 at 184 pounds.

The Blugolds fall to 11-14 overall and 1-4 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual meets. Oshkosh improves to 5-10 overall and 1-4 in WIAC action.

Eau Claire will be in action tomorrow when they host eight teams tomorrow as part of the UWEC Invitational. The invite is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at the McPhee Phy. Ed. Center.
