ADRIAN COLLEGE SWEEPS WOMEN’S HOCKY TEAM

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire women’s hockey team lost its’ second consecutive game on Saturday when they suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Adrian college (Mich.). The loss dropped the Blugold’s overall record to 5-4.

Things started off good for the Blugolds, they opened the scoring with an even strength goal at 12:25 of the first period to take an early 1-0 lead. Margret Campbell (Jr.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) scored the goal, and she was assisted by Christine Dickinson (Fr.-Layton, UT/Shattuck St. Mary's) and Maddi Hammer (Fr.-Owatonna, MN). Campbell’s goal was the only goal either team scored in the first period.

The Blugolds took the ice with a 1-0 lead in the second, but it did not last long. At 3:27 of the second period, Jessica Grubbs scored a power play goal. The goal was Grubbs second of the weekend. Adrian took the lead later in the period when they cashed in on the power play for a second time. This time it was Step Dimini who beat the Blugolds as she scored at 12:01 of the period. The Bulldogs held on to the 2-1 lead for the remainder of the second period.

In the third Period, the Bulldogs drew first blood as Stacey Kempson snipped a wrist shot past the Blugold’s goalie, Nicole Lence (Fr.- St. Paul Park, MN/Park), at 4:01 of the period. The Bulldogs then took a commanding 4-1 lead when Dimini scored her second goal of the game at 8:46 of the period. The Blugolds responded with a goal of their own less than a minute later when Lauren Havard (Jr.-San Angelo, TX/Arapahoe) tallied her third goal of the season. However, that would be as close as the Blugolds would get as they fell by a score of 4-2 for a second straight game.

In net, Lence made her first career start for the Blugolds. She made 18 saves and fell to 0-1 on the season. On the other end of the ice, Dana Timm stopped 23 shots and improved her record to 4-2.

The Blugolds struggled on the on power play for a second consecutive game going 0-6 with the skater advantage. Adrian was very opportunistic on the power play as they went 2-5.

The Blugold’s next game is Friday, December 7 when they host Concordia (Mequon). The action is set to start at 7:00 p.m. The Blugolds are 2-0 against Concordia this season.
