ST. KATE'S HEADS TO TOWN ON SENIOR NIGHT FOR WOMEN'S HOCKEY
EAU CLAIRE - Friday night the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team will face the College of St. Catherine and also celebrate Senior Night as the team looks for its sixth win overall this season. The Blugolds have been playing a lot of extra hockey lately. The past three games have all gone to overtime and all ended in ties. This includes a 2-2 game versus Lake Forest, a 1-1 affair with UW-Superior and finally Saturday's 2-2 contest against Finlandia. With those Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) ties, Eau Claire has moved above Finlandia in the NCHA rankings to fifth, though the team needs seven more points to catch Lake Forest, which has 11. The team will have opportunities to gain those points. Friday's game will be the last non-NCHA game on the schedule. That makes for five straight NCHA games to end the year and improve both the 0-6-4 NCHA record and the 5-10-4 overall mark. The Blugolds have gone 5-4-0 in non-NCHA play this season and have gained all their victories through those contests. Two Blugolds are tied for the team lead in points with 17. Lauren Havard (Fr.-San Angelo, TX/Arapahoe) has 10 goals and seven assists while Martina Korinek (Jr.-White Bear Lake, MN) has eight goals and nine assists. Third is Amanda Schultz (Sr.-Stevens Point/SPASH), who missed eight games with a knee injury. She has 11 points on seven goals and four assists. The Wildcats are 1-14-0 on the year. The team went on a 16-game losing streak to start the year, which included two exhibition games, but won its last game. The team defeated Hamline University on Saturday by a 3-0 score. Angela Johnson leads the team in points with eight. Eau Claire has a 2-5-2 all-time record against St. Kate's, though the last two games were Blugold victories. The last time Eau Claire lost to the Wildcats was December of 2002. The action begins at 7:00 p.m. this Friday in Hobbs Ice Center.
