NCHA WEEKEND IN STORE FOR WOMEN'S HOCKEY
EAU CLAIRE - The 5-10-2 UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team looks to improve its 0-6-2 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) record this weekend when it faces NCHA foes UW-Superior and Finlandia. The team has most recently tied Lake Forest 2-2 and lost 6-1 to UW-Stevens Point, which is ranked sixth in the USCHO.com Division III poll. The Blugolds did have a three game winning streak before the loss with wins coming over Bethel University, St. Mary's and the College of St. Benedict. Lauren Havard (Fr.-San Angelo, TX/Arapahoe) and Martina Korinek (Jr.-White Bear Lake, MN) are tied for the team lead in points at 16. Havard has nine goals and seven assists while Korinek has nine assists and seven goals. Amanda Schultz (Sr.-Stevens Point/SPASH) is closing in on the two as she has 11 points. Schultz missed 8 games due to a knee injury but has come back strong with seven goals in nine games, as well as four assists. Jill Arendt (So.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata), who has played in 12 games, holds a .895 save percentage while allowing an average of 3.09 goals per matchup. Friday night the Blugolds will go up against the Superior Yellowjackets, who are ranked seventh in the USCHO.com Division III poll. The team is 13-2-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the NCHA, good for second behind Stevens Point. Eau Claire gave Superior a run for its money earlier this season during an overtime game that ended in a 3-2 Yellowjacket victory. Superior then beat Eau Claire 5-1 the next day. The team is 2-21 all-time versus the Yellowjackets. Erin Kegley leads the Superior charge with 29 points this year on 16 goals and 13 assists. Finlandia then comes to town Saturday to take on the Blugolds, when one team will move up in the NCHA standings. The Lions are 7-9-1 this season but are only 1-8-0 in NCHA play. Eau Claire and Finlandia are tied for last in the NCHA with two points each. The Lions and Blugolds have not met this season, but Finlandia leads the series 2-0 with the two wins coming last year. Sara Sleik has 16 points and Brenda Peterson has 15 for Finlandia. Both games start at 7:00 p.m. this Friday and Saturday and both will be in Hobbs Ice Center.
