BIG THIRD PERIOD LIFTS WOMEN'S HOCKEY TO VICTORY

EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team scored three goals in the final 11 minutes of the third period to defeat Bethel College tonight 4-1.

This was the second victory for the Blugolds against the Royals this season and the win snaps a five-game winless streak.

With the win the Blugolds improve to 3-9-1 on the season and the loss drops the Royals to 2-6-1.

The game was a defensive struggle the first period with neither team scoring in the period. Both teams combined for just seven shots in the first period.

Just over six minutes into the second period the Blugolds struck first on a power-play goal by Karen Hebert (Jr.-Lakeville, MN/Holy Angels). Theresa Guindon (So.-Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) and Amanda Schultz (Sr.-Stevens Point/SPASH) assisted on the goal. That 1-0 score would hold up until the third period.

The action-packed third period saw four goals combined between the two teams, three of which by the Blugolds. The Royals tied the game up at 1-1 with 16:04 to play when Elicia Adams put one past the Blugold goalie.

The Blugolds would answer with 11 minutes to play when Amanda Schultz scored her fifth goal of the season to put the Blugolds up 2-1. Martina Korinek (Jr.-White Bear Lake, MN) assisted on the goal. The roles would then be reversed with 3:28 remaining in the contest as Korinek would score for the Blugolds and Schultz along with Lauren Havard (Fr.-San Angelo, TX/Arapahoe) would be credited with the assists. Laura Suppes (Jr.-Roseville, MN) would seal the deal scoring with seven seconds left to give the Blugolds the 4-1 win. Hebert assisted on the goal.

Amanda Schultz had a great night for the Blugolds with four points in the contest. Goalie Heather Prochaska (So.-Madison/East) picked up the win for the Blugolds as she stopped 26 Royal shots.

The Blugolds will host St. Mary's University tomorrow night with the action set to begin at 7 p.m. Tomorrow night's game will also be Youth Night at Hobbs Ice Center.
