WOMEN'S GOLF CLAIMS SECOND AT UWEC INVITE

EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team shot a second round 321 en route to wrapping up second place in the two day UWEC Invitational here today at Mill Run Golf Course.

The Blugolds shot just one stroke behind Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival UW-Oshkosh during the second day and finished 10 shots back on the weekend. The Blugolds shot a 657 while the Titans scored a 647. Grabbing third place was Simpson College with a 669 while Wartburg took fourth with a 677. St. Thomas rounded out the top five, shooting a 682.

Maggie Loney (So.-River Falls) and Susan Karlman (So.-Onalaska/Holmen) were the top Blugold golfers on the day as they both shot 79. Loney finished the event in a tie for third with a 162 while Karlman finished in a tie for 11th after a first round 89. Karlman finished the invite with a 168.

Newcomer Kelly Gerzsenyi (Fr.-Rochester, MN/Mayo) showed that her first round 80 was not a fluke as she shot a second round 82 to also finish in a tie for third place overall. Jennifer Prock (Sr.-Eau Clair e/Memorial) rebounded from an opening round 90 as she shot a second round 81 to finish in a tie for 18th place with a 171.

Andrea Kloppman (Jr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) shot an 88 to finish in a tie for 32nd place and Jessica Thompson (Fr.-Plover/SPASH) shot a 93 to finish in a tie for 47th to round out the Blugold scoring.

The Blugolds resume their season schedule next Saturday and Sunday when they will battle WIAC opponent UW-Whitewater in Whitewater. The Warhawks claimed sixth place in the UWEC Invite.
