CHICAGO SOARS ABOVE EAGLES
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The University of Chicago scored the first 12 points of the game and never looked back in defeating Edgewood College, 66-45, to advance to the championship game of the Eau Claire Thanksgiving Showcase at the W. L. Zorn Arena Friday. The Maroons will take on the winner of the Eau Claire-North Park game at 8 p.m. Saturday while Edgewood will meet the loser in the consolation game at 6 p.m. Chicago jumped to its 12-0 lead within the first three minutes of the contest and was up by 20 at 28-8 by the 8:54 mark. The Maroons settled for a 39-21 advantage at the intermission. The Maroons’ lead peaked at 30 (56-26) with 10:13 remaining. The only things that kept Coach Aaron Roussell’s Maroons from totally blowing the game wide open were 27 turnovers and 25 fouls. That compared to 25 turnovers and 11 fouls by Edgewood. Chicago shot 42 percent from the field including 43 percent from three-point range as the Maroons nailed 7 of 16 attempts from beyond the arc. Edgewood managed to connect just once in nine three-point tries. Edgewood also could not capitalize on the Chicago fouls, hitting just 14 of 24 attempts from the charity stripe. Roussell put 14 players on the court and 12 got into the scoring column led by sophomore guard Jamie Stinson with 12 and 6-0 sophomore forward Molly Hackney with 11. Six-foot-one sophomore Anna Woods and Hackney helped Chicago to a 44-27advantage on the boards with eight rebounds each. Edgewood’s junior forward Megan Scheele led all scorers with 19 while freshman Jannelle Gosh was the only other Eagles’ player with more than four as she contributed 11 points. Chicago will take a 3-0 record into the tournament championship while Edgewood fell to 1-2 on the season. Chicago-Edgewood Box Score Thanksgiving Showcase Webpage - TP -
