FIVE ON ALL-WIAC TEAM FOR VOLLEYBALL

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – After a successful 22-10 season that nabbed a selection to the NCAA Division III Championships, five members of the UW-Eau Claire volleyball team nabbed all-conference honors.

Members of the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) team from Eau Claire were outside hitter Abby Freiborg (Jr.-Sacred Heart, MN/Renville County West), outside hitter Nikki Peterson (Sr.-North St. Paul, MN/North), middle blocker Katie Fox (Jr.-Chippewa Falls/Chi-Hi), setter Emily Haese {[(Jr.-Mishicot), and libero Heather Harnell (Sr.-Minnetonka, MN).

Freiborg and Peterson were selected to the first team All-WIAC. Freiborg led the conference in aces with 75, or 0.69 per game. She was also sixth in kills per game with 3.55. Her 4.06 digs per game ranked ninth.

Peterson led the Blugolds in attack percentage at .332 and was second in kills per game with 2.92. On defense, her 49 blocks for 0.64 per game ranked second.

Fox and Haese were Honorable Mentions. Fox was sixth among all conference competitors in hitting percentage with a .276 mark. She showed her defensive skills off with 0.90 blocks per game, which was ninth in the WIAC.

Haese fueled the Eau Claire offense, providing 12.47 assists per game. Her mark was third-best in the conference.

Finally, Harnell was a member of two teams – the All-Defensive Team and the All-Sportsmanship Team. Harnell had 4.58 digs per game and ranked fourth in the conference for that category.

None of the Blugolds had ever made an All-WIAC team before.
