Becoming just the fourth women’s volleyball coach in NCAA Division III history to record 700 career victories, Lisa Herb returns for her 20th season as the head coach at UW-Eau Claire.

Herb-directed teams have posted winning seasons in 18 of the last 19 years, won 20 or more matches 10 times, 30 or more matches five times, 40 or more matches one time and won a school-record 52 matches in 1987.

Individually, Herb has coached 42 first team All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) selections, eight All-Americans and three Academic All-Americans

Herb owns a career record of 709-277, a .719 winning percentage, with a 546-188 mark at Eau Claire for a .744 winning effort. The Blugolds won a conference title in 1987 and have been runner-up four times, most recently in 1997 when they made their seventh

NCAA post-season appearance. Since 1998, the Blugolds have posted five consecutive seasons with 20-plus victories compiling an overall record of 116-49 (a .703 winning percentage). She was named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 1987 and 1997 and was also the Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 1997.

Herb’s resume at Eau Claire, where she arrived in 1985, also includes the direction of the successful Blugold volleyball camps and clinics. She is an assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology and director of academic programs in the department.

In her six years at Dubuque, Herb won an Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title in 1982 when she was named the IIAC Coach of the Year as her team finished 46-5. Herb also coached track and softball for three years, was assistant basketball coach for two years and served as an assistant professor and assistant athletic director. Herb was inducted into the Dubuque Hall of Fame in 2002.

A native of Appleton, Herb played volleyball for four years at UW-La Crosse and was named All-State first team volleyball player in 1977. She graduated from La Crosse in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and received a master’s from the University of Iowa in 1981. Herb has completed everything but her dissertation in pursuit of her doctorate from the University of Iowa.
