Game Twelve Recap
OSHKOSH ELIMINATES AURORA FROM REGIONAL WITH ONE-RUN GAME
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Oshkosh softball team won its second consecutive one-run game today and in the process eliminated Aurora University (Ill.) from the NCAA Division III Softball Regional Championship in Eau Claire with a 2-1 contest.
Both of seventh-seeded Aurora’s losses came from the Titans, as 14th-ranked Oshkosh defeated the Spartans 5-0 on Thursday. Second-seeded Oshkosh now plays top-seeded St. Thomas (Minn.) for the rights to battle sixth-seeded Eau Claire in the regional’s final game, which will determine who advances.
The first Oshkosh run came in the second when Aurora starter Nicole Capone hit Amie Heinzelman with the bases loaded. Anna Snyder came in to finish off the game at this point. Capone took the loss and gave up the run off one hit and a walk in her one and two-thirds innings. Snyder pitched five and a third innings and allowed the other run off a hit and a trio of walks. She rang up eight.
The second run came in the fourth when Heinzelman homered to left center with one out. Aurora matched that homer with one of their own in the bottom half of the inning when Nikki Veen sent one to left.
Starter Amy Sullivan pitched four innings and gave up the run off two hits and no walks. She whiffed three while Ronessa Stampfli struck out seven in her three scoreless frames. Both teams had two hits.
Oshkosh plays St. Thomas at noon on Sunday.
