Game Ten Recap
HOMER DECIDES PITCHING DUEL FOR OSHKOSH
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – With a fifth-inning home run to center, Ashley Steltenpohl provided all the offense second-seeded UW-Oshkosh would need as it won 1-0 over fifth-seeded Illinois Wesleyan University.
No. 23 Illinois Wesleyan is now eliminated while 14th-ranked Oshkosh faces Aurora University (Ill.) in the next round.
Ronessa Stampfli allowed just four hits over her seven innings while ringing up nine. Stampfli also recorded her 1,000th strikeout in the top of the fourth. She is the only Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) pitcher to have at least 1,000 K’s. Her mark is seventh in Division III history.
Her counterpart also went the distance and hurled a two-hitter. One of those hits, however, was the blast to Steltenpohl. Christy Engel also struck out 10. Monica Urban and Ashley Deck each had two hits in the game for Illinois Wesleyan.
The matchup between Oshkosh and Aurora is scheduled for 4 p.m. today. Oshkosh beat Aurora 5-0 on Thursday.
