Game Thirteen - #1 Oshkosh vs. #2 Stevens Point

UNEARNED RUNS CARRY OSHKOSH PAST STEVENS POINT

EAU CLAIRE – Lyndsey Allen’s two-run single in the third inning provided the margin of difference as UW-Oshkosh beat UW-Stevens Point, 3-1, to eliminate the Pointers from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference fastpitch tournament at Hobbs Field in Carson Park Saturday morning.

Allen’s hit was one of only two allowed by Pointers’ southpaw Stephanie Anderson. However, the Pointers committed three errors including two in the third when Oshkosh scored all of its runs which were unearned.

Ronessa Stampfli went the distance on the mound for Oshkosh, scattering five hits and striking out 11 without walking anyone.

Stevens Point put two runners on base in the seventh with one out, but Stampfli got a strikeout and a flyout to end the game.

Stevens Point, the tournament’s No. 2 seed and also ranked No. 17 nationally in the NFCA Division III poll, finishes the regular season with a 32-8 record. Oshkosh, the WIAC regular season champ and ranked No. 11 nationally, will take a 31-9 record into its next tournament game against UW-River Falls, which was bounced into the losers’ bracket in a 2-0 decision against UW-Eau Claire.
