Game Eleven - #1 Oshkosh vs. #6 Superior
SULLIVAN BLANKS SUPERIOR TO KEEP OSHKOSH ALIVE
EAU CLAIRE – Amy Sullivan threw a six-hit shutout to lead UW-Oshkosh to a 4-0 triumph over UW-Superior in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference fastpitch tournament at Gelein Field in Carson Park here Saturday morning.
The win kept Oshkosh alive in the losers’ bracket of the double elimination tournament while Superior concluded its season with a 19-22 record.
Oshkosh, the top seed in the tournament and ranked No. 11 nationally in the NFCA Division III poll, scored the only run it needed in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk to Ashley Steltenpohl which scored Amie Heinzelman who had walked leading off the game.
The game opened with a light rain and Superior starter Jen Reid walked the first two batters before she was lifted in favor of Nichole Tessier. She also walked two before getting out of the inning.
Oshkosh put together three hits to score an additional run in the fourth on a single by Heinzelman.
A triple by Lyndsey Allen and a single by Whitney Tyriver drove in the Titans’ final two runs in the fifth inning.
Sullivan struck out five without walking a batter in her route-going performance. She got out of a bases-loaded situation in the final inning.
Oshkosh, now 31-8 for the season, will continue its bid through the losers’ bracket with a contest against UW-Stevens Point, a 12-7 winner over UW-Whitewater. The Titans were bounced out of the winners’ bracket in a 4-3, nine-inning loss to UW-Eau Claire Friday.
