SOFTBALL EARNS SPLIT AT AUGUSTANA INVITATIONAL
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The UW-Eau Claire softball team defeated Ripon College 7-2 but then committed seven errors in an 8-1 loss to St. Ambrose here today in the second day of the Augustana Invitational.
The Blugolds move to 8-7 overall with the split.
Mallory McKinney (Fr.-Brooklyn Park, MN/Champlin Park) and Amber Haack (Fr.-Madison/La Follette) each homered in the first game for the Blugolds, who tallied their seven runs on eight hits. McKinney finished one-for-four with the home run and two RBI while Haack went two-for-four with an RBI and two runs scored.
McKinney earned the win in the circle, allowing just one earned run on five hits while fanning three Ripon batters.
The Blugolds' seven errors helped St. Ambrose end a 10-game losing skid as Andrea Neuville (So.-Green Bay/West) took the loss, allowing seven runs, four earned, in 5 1/3 innings pitched. Steph Farenbaugh (So.-Brownton, MN/McLeod West) went three-for-four in the loss.
Eau Claire returns to action on Thursday when the Blugolds host St. Scholastica for a 4:00 p.m. game at Gelein Field.
