TALBOT, RIVARD HONORED AS NSCAA SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICANS
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – UW-Eau Claire women’s soccer defender Anna Talbot (Sr.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) and goalkeeper Allie Rivard (Jr.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-America Team, NSCAA officials announced. Talbot, a first team NSCAA Scholar All-American selection, has already received NSCAA All-America third team and NSCAA All-Central Region first team honors. She was also named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s (WIAC) Player of the Year and to the All-WIAC women’s soccer team. Talbot, a communication sciences and disorders major with a 3.78 cumulative GPA, helped anchor the Blugold defense that consistently shut down opponents this season. As a team, the Blugolds tallied 14 shutouts on the season, tied for second most in program history and fourth most in the WIAC. The Blugold defense allowed only 119 shots, 53 being on goal, which is an average of 5.4 shots per game. The defense also allowed only 12 goals the entire season, a 0.53 goals against average (GAA), which was the best in the conference and 14th in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III. Talbot also had two assists this season. Rivard, who received honors as an NSCAA Scholar All-America second team selection and All-Central Region second team selection, saved 33-of-39 shots faced in 1,250 minutes. She allowed only 0.43 goals per game, saving .846 percent of shots faced. Rivard’s 0.43 GAA ranks first in the WIAC and 12th in NCAA Division III this season. It also ranks fourth all-time in the WIAC, after setting the record last season with her 0.19 GAA. Rivard, a biology major, maintains a 3.56 cumulative GPA. Talbot and Rivard join only two other Blugolds to receive NSCAA Scholar All-America honors. The last Blugold named to the NSCAA Scholar All-America Team was Kari Blasczyk in 2000. Diane Kelsch was the first Blugold to be honored with a selection in 1993. 2007 NSCAA Scholar All-America List - KM -
