SOCCER TO HOST UW-RIVER FALLS ON SATURDAY

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire women’s soccer team is set to host UW-River Falls in its final Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WAIC) game of the season.

The Blugolds, 6-0-1 in the WAIC and 14-1-2 overall, are in first place in the WIAC and a win Saturday will give them their third straight WIAC championship. Saturday’s game will be the final regular season game for the Blugolds and the final contest until post-season play begins Tuesday.

According to the NSCAA/adidas Regional Division III rankings the Blugolds are in third place behind first place Wheaton College (IL) and second place Washington University (MO).

River Falls, 1-4-2 in the WIAC and 2-12-13 overall, are coming off three straight losses. Two of the losses came to WIAC opponents UW-Stevens Point 5-1 and UW-Stout 3-1.

Leading the Blugolds in scoring is Amy Smith (Jr.- Bloomington, MN/Thomas Jefferson) with twelve goals on the season. Behind Smith is Liz Kooistra (Jr.- Lakeville, MN) with seven goals. Haelee Maurer (Fr.- Appleton, WI/West) and Gina Christenbury (Fr.- Pleasant Prairie, WI/Kenosha Tremper) each have five goals.

Smith is leading Eau Claire in assists with nine and her sister Allison Smith (Jr.- Bloomington, MN/Thomas Jefferson) is right behind her with six assists. Maurer and Kooistra each have five assists.

Allie Rivard (Jr.- Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) and Liz Weirick (Sr.- Kenosha, WI/Tremper) have been near perfect in the net. Rivard has logged 1024:54 minutes for the Blugolds with 28 saves and four goals allowed. Rivard is 7-1-2 for the Blugolds with four shut-outs. Weirick has logged 552:19 minutes for the Blugolds; she has 10 saves and has allowed five goals. Weirick is 7-0-0 with one shut-out.

Saturday’s game between Eau Claire and River Falls will start at 11 a.m. at the Bollinger Fields in Eau Claire.

Eau Claire will host the first round of the post-season on Tuesday at the Bollinger Fields in Eau Claire. The game is set to start at 2 p.m. and the opponent will be announced at the conclusion of the weekend’s games.
