SOCCER LOOKING FOR FIRST WIN EVER AGAINST WHEATON COLLEGE

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire women’s soccer team is set to play Wheaton College (Il) on Wednesday at the Bollinger Fields. The Blugolds are looking for revenge and their first win ever against the Thunder.

Eau Claire is 0-7 lifetime against Wheaton dating back to October 14, 1995. The Wheaton College women’s soccer team earned its 32nd consecutive victory on Saturday. The Thunder has outscored their opponents 40-1 over their last nine matches and has not allowed a goal in their last 391:04 of action.

The Thunder has ended two consecutive seasons for the Blugolds. In the 2005-2006 season Wheaton beat Eau Claire 2-1 when they scored their second goal of the game in overtime. In the 2006-2007 season Wheaton beat Eau Claire 2-0.

In the Division III National Rankings (NSCAA/adidas) Wheaton College is ranked first with an 11-0-0 record and 25 total points. Eau Claire trails Wheaton with a seventh place ranking with an 11-0-1 record and 18 total points. Eau Claire is ranked first on the D3Kicks Regional Poll while Wheaton College is ranked second.

Amy Smith (Jr.- Bloomington, MN/Thomas Jefferson) leads the way for the Blugolds with eight goals and seven assists; Smith also has 33 shots on goal. Liz Kooistra (Jr.- Lakeville, MN) and Haelee Maurer (Fr.- Appleton, WI/West) are right behind Smith with five goals apiece.

Allie Rivard (Jr.- Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) has logged 792:13 in the net for the Blugolds. Rivard has 18 saves and a save percentage of .900. Rivard has only allowed two goals on the season.

The Blugolds sit alone atop of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 4-0-0 record. Trailing Eau Claire is Stevens Point in second place and Oshkosh in third place. The Blugolds beat Stevens Point last week with a 4-3 victory in overtime.

Eau Claire has 18 consecutive wins over WIAC opponents as of Oct. 8, 2007, this includes five tournament games. Also as of Oct. 8, 2007 the Blugolds have played 26 games in a row without a loss. Eau Claire has not lost a conference game since Oct. 16, 2004 when they lost to Stevens Point 3-0.

Eau Claire will travel to Oshkosh on Saturday for a 2:00 game against the Titans in one of their last four conference matches of the season.

Eau Claire is 18-3-1 lifetime against the Titans and have also won the last four matches against Oshkosh.

On Wednesday the Blugolds will take on the Thunder in Eau Claire at the Bollinger Fields at 4:00 p.m. On Saturday the Blugolds will travel to Oshkosh to take on the Titans in a 2:00 p.m. conference match-up.
