SOCCER SET FOR COBBER INVITE

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire women’s soccer team will travel to Moorhead, Minn. this weekend to take on Concordia-Moorhead and St. Scholastica in the 2007 Cobber Invite.

The Blugolds enter the weekend unbeaten with two wins under their belt and a national ranking. The Blugolds are ranked ninth in the latest NSCAA/adidas poll, moving up six spots after last week’s wins.

In a rematch of last season’s first-round NCAA playoff game, the Blugolds will take on the Cobbers. Last season, the Blugolds defeated the Cobbers 2-0 in the playoffs. The Cobbers go into the weekend averaging four and a half goals per game, while the Blugolds are averaging three per game. However, the Cobbers have been able to get off 46 shots in two games, but the Blugold defense will challenge them as they have only allowed four and a half shots per game this season.

On Saturday the Blugolds will take on St. Scholastica at the invite. The Saints are coming off their first win of the season beating UW-River Falls 2-1. The Saints are 1-0-1 on the season, after a tie with St. Catherine in the season opener. Last year, UW-Eau Claire defeated the Saints 3-0 in the final game of the regular season. The Saints have also gotten off a fair number of shots this season, with 37, and they have only allowed 18 shots. However, the Blugolds will look to increase this number, as they average 22 shots per game.

Friday, the Blugolds will take the field against the Cobbers at 5 pm. On Saturday, St. Scholastica will take on the Blugolds at 2:30 pm. Both games will take place in Moorhead, Minn.
