FIVE NAMED TO NSCAA ALL-CENTRAL REGION TEAM

EAU CLAIRE – Five members of the UW-Eau Claire women’s soccer team have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Central Region Team.

The five selections were the most by any school represented on the All-Central Region team. Wheaton (IL) had four representatives on the All-Region team, including three first team selections.

Goalie Allie Rivard (So.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata), defender Becky Westbrock (Sr.-Oakdale, MN/North St. Paul) and forward/midfielder Maria Iaizzo (Sr.-White Bear Lake, MN) were all first team selections. Midfielder/forward Emily Meisinger (Sr.-Green Bay/Notre Dame) was named to the second team and midfielder/forward Liz Kooistra (So.-Lakeville, MN) was named to the third team.

Rivard saved 48-of-51 shots faced in 1,392 minutes allowing 0.19 goals per game saving .941 percent of shots faced. Rivard was part of a team that produced a school and WIAC record 18 shutouts. Rivard also set the single-season record for goals allowed per game formerly held by Abby Rabinovitz of UW-Stevens Point of 0.23 set in 2000.

Westbrock along with Rivard led a Blugold defense that posted a school and conference record 18 shutouts en route to an impressive 0.38 goals against average allowing just 5.9 shots per game. Westbrock recorded one goal, the first of her career, and three assists for five points this year.

Iaizzo, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Player of the Year, scored 18 goals and 10 assists for a total of 46 points on the season. Iaizzo’s 18 goals and 46 points ranks second on the school’s single season records list for goals and point while her 10 assists rank third for most assists in a season. Iaizzo tallied nine game-winning goals and two hat tricks in 2006.

Meisinger ranked second on the team with nine assists, third with 27 points and fourth with nine goals. Meisinger also tallied two game-winning goals in 2006 for the Blugolds.

Kooistra finished third in the team with 10 goals and four game-winning goals in addition to ranking fourth with 26 points despite missing six matches. Kooistra also recorded six assists this season.
