2006 UW-EAU CLAIRE SOCCER ANNOUNCES ROSTER

UW-Eau Claire soccer head coach Sean Yengo announced his 2006 roster today.

Of the 25-member squad, 16 are returning letterwinners. The Blugolds return four All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) selections from last year's team. Midfielders Emily Meisinger (Sr.-Green Bay, WI/Notre Dame Academy) and Liz Kooistra (So.-Lakeville, MN) along with defenders Allison Smith (So.-Bloomington, MN/Jefferson) and Becky Westbrock (Sr.-Oakdale, MN/North St. Paul) were all named to the All-WIAC team in 2005.

The Blugolds lost just two seniors from last year's team and only have four on this year's squad. Along with Meisinger and Westbrock, seniors Aimee Bretl (Sr.-Port Washington, WI) and Maria Iaizzo (Sr.-White Bear Lake, MN) should be big contributors this year.

The Blugolds return goalkeepers Allie Rivard (So.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) and Liz Weirick (Jr.-Kenosha, WI/Tremper), while adding another goalkeeper junior Anne Scharenbroich (Jr.-White Bear Lake, MN) who did not play in 2005, but lettered in 2003 and 2004.

The Blugolds will have seven freshmen on the squad: Shannon Conlin (Fr.-Reedsburg, WI), Katie Hanna (Fr.-Appleton, WI/West), Sam Krueger (Fr.-Elkhorn, WI), Tracey Raabe (Fr.-Bloomington, MN/Kennedy), Amanda Shelton (Fr.-Brown Deer, WI), Kristin Vanden Acker (Fr.-Appleton, WI/West), and Emily Waldorf (Fr.-Hartford, WI/Kettle Moraine Lutheran).

UWEC will try to duplicate the success of last season as the team won its first conference championship in school history and made it all the way to the second round of the Division III NCAA Tournament. The Blugolds had an eight-game improvement last season from the 2004 season.

Coach Sean Yengo enters his 10th season with the Blugolds. Yengo was named the WIAC Coach of the Year in 2005 and is currently tied for second among WIAC coaches with 111 victories.
