SOCCER EXTENDS WIN STREAK WITH VICTORY OVER GUSTAVUS

EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team extended its win streak to five today after defeating Gustavus Adolphus 1-0 at the Bollinger Fields.

The Blugolds dominated for the most part out shooting the Gusties 13-3 in the game and controlling possession for most of the second half. The Gusties goalie was busy stopping 11 Blugold shots.

After a scoreless first half, the Blugolds scored their lone goal when Nicki Pigeon (Fr.-Green Bay/Preble) put one in just inside the left post halfway through the second half for her first career goal. Liz Kooistra (Fr.-Lakeville, MN) assisted on the play. The Blugolds defense then shut down the Gusties, not allowing a shot on goal the rest of the way, to preserve the win.

Marcia Foltz (Sr.-Madison/Memorial) had five of the 14 Blugolds shots to lead the team.

The Blugolds improve to a record of 5-0-1. The five straight wins is the most consecutive since the 2002 season. With the lose, the Gusties fall to 3-4.

Up next for the Blugolds is another non-conference match at Macalester College, Friday night starting at 7:30.
