SOCCER STRUGGLES TO A 0-0 TIE IN OPENER

The UW-Eau Claire soccer team maintained its undefeated record against Augsburg, but was only able to pullout a 0-0, double overtime tie, against the Auggies in a non-conference game at Minneapolis Thursday night.

The Blugolds dominated the first half, out shooting Augsburg by a 13-2 margin and controlling the possession for most of the period. However, the second half and overtime were much more even, with the Blugolds holding just a 15-12 advantage over the final 65 minutes of play.

Liz Kooistra (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.) and Maria Iaizzo (Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) had six shots each for the Blugolds, with Marcia Foltz (Sr., Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) and Allison Muer (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) adding five shots apiece.

The Auggies goalie, Maggie DeGroot (Fr., Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS), had nine saves in her first career start. She also made four key saves in the two overtime periods.

The Blugolds are now 7-0-2 against the Auggies and now look ahead to their next matchup Sunday (Sep. 4) at Carleton College starting at 2 p.m.
