MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD ALSO PICKS UP THIRD INDOOR WIN
OSHKOSH – Just like the women, the UW-Eau Claire men’s track and field team picked up its third indoor win of the season as it won the UW-Oshkosh Invitational today with a total of 166 points. UW-Oshkosh placed a close second with 162 points. UW-Stevens Point finished third with 140 points. UW-La Crosse ended up fourth with 45 points and the Greater Milwaukee Track Club placed fifth with 43.50 points. In the track events, Nick Kropp (Fr.-Green Bay, WI/Preble) won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.35. Wes Fischer (So.-Rosemount, MN) was also victorious in the 800-meter run as he posted a winning time of 1:55.52. The 4x200-meter relay “A” team was the third track event winner with a time of 1:30.98. Chris Kupfer (So.-Germantown, WI) placed third in the 400-meter run with a time of 50.45. Kevin Hall (So.-Green Bay, WI/Preble) finished second in the 3000-meter run, posting a time of 8:54.91. The 4x400-meter relay “A” team also placed second with a time of 3:25.35. In the field events, the Blugolds swept the top two spots in the triple jump as Kirk Schmidt (Fr.-Athens, WI) won with a distance of 46-3.50 and Eric Eigenfeld (Sr.-DeForest, WI) placed second with a distance of 44-3.50. Joe Felber (So.-Manitowoc, WI/Lincoln) finished second in the long jump with a distance of 20-11.75. Nate Woodward (Fr.-De Pere, WI) also placed second in the high jump, clearing a height of 6-2. Sam Johnson (So.-Deer Park, WI/Amery) placed fourth in the 35-pound weight throw with a distance of 55-1.50 and finished fifth in the shot put, throwing a distance of 44-3.50. Eau Claire will compete in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Championships next Friday and Saturday in Whitewater. The first event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday.
