MEN’S TRACK FINISHES THIRD AT WHITEWATER INVITE
WHITEWATER – The UW-Eau Claire men’s track and field team placed third out of 14 teams today at the UW-Whitewater Invitational held at Kachel Fieldhouse. The host, UW-Whitewater, finished first in the invite with 152 points. UW-Stevens Point placed second with 132 points. The Blugolds were third with 126.5 points, while UW-Platteville finished fourth with 94.5 points. Carthage College rounded out the top five with 49 points. Ted Lillie (Jr.-North St. Paul, MN) won the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:17.69. The 4x200-meter “A” relay team was also victorious as they posted a winning time of 1:31.74. Wes Fischer (So.-Rosemount, MN) finished second in the 800-meter run as he posted a time of 1:58.71. In the 200-meter dash, Bryan Tschudy (So.-New Richmond, WI) and Adam Sturgis (Sr.-Bruce, WI) finished third and fourth respectively as Tschudy had a time of 23.13 and Sturgis posted a time of 23.16. Brian Christ (Jr.-Arcadia, WI) was the top-Blugold finisher in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.80, which was good enough for sixth place. James Marsh (Fr.-Madison, WI/West) finished eighth out of 39 runners in the mile run with a time of 4:33.70. Nick Kropp (Fr.-Green Bay, WI/Preble) was the only Blugold to advance to the finals of the 55-meter dash where he finished sixth with a time of 6.65. Joe Felber (So.-Manitowoc, WI/Lincoln) and Nick Aliota (Sr.-Brookfield, WI/Central) both advanced to the 55-meter hurdles finals. Felber finished fifth in the finals, posting a time of 8.13, while Aliota placed sixth with a time of 8.17. In the field events, the Blugolds swept the top two spots in the triple jump as Joe Felber placed first, leaping a distance of 45-2.5. Kirk Schmidt (Fr.-Athens, WI) was second, jumping 43-5.75. Sam Johnson (So.-Deer Park, WI/Amery) was victorious in the weight throw, tossing a distance of 57-6.25. Nate Woodward (Fr.-De Pere, WI) placed third in the high jump by clearing 6-2.25. Also placing third in the pole vault was Nick Desotelle (So.-Weston, WI/D.C. Everest) as he cleared 14-9. The Blugolds will compete in the Warren Bowlus Open next Saturday in Menomonie.
