TRACK IN ACTION AT SIMPSON TWILIGHT
Indianola, Iowa - Ben Schmiege (Sr.-Madison/Lakeside Lutheran) and Ashley Nelson (Jr.-Darwin, MN/Litchfield) each brought home first place finishes as the UW-Eau Claire men's and women's outdoor track and field teams were in competition at the Simpson Twilight Classic.
Schmiege won the 1500-meter run in a time of 3:56.19. The time is an outdoor season-best for the senior by more than two seconds.
Nelson took home first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.47 seconds, edging out Alicia Mindermann of North Dakota State, who took second in a time of 12.67 seconds.
The Blugolds also earned a first place finish in the women's 4x100 meter relay team, which won the event in a time of 49.92 seconds.
Shaun Marek (Jr.-Waunakee) earned third place in the men's triple jump with a distance of 45-5 ¼ (13.85 meters). He also claimed fourth place in the long jump with a distance of 21-10 ¼ (6.66m).
Shalene Huth (Fr.-Appleton/West) grabbed a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.88 seconds.
Erik Ferguson (Jr.-Rochester, MN/Dover-Eyota) took fifth-place in the men's 200-meter dash in a time of 22.44 seconds.
The Blugolds will travel to La Crosse on Friday to compete in the La Crosse Invite beginning at 3 p.m.
