SCHUNA FIFTH, RELAYS IN ACTION AT DRAKE RELAYS

DES MOINES, Iowa - UW-Eau Claire outdoor field member John Schuna (Jr.-Hudson) took fifth place in the shot put competition while four Eau Claire relay teams also competed at the Drake Relays here today at Drake Stadium

Schuna launched a throw of 17.19 meters (56-4 ¾) to earn the fifth-place finish. The four throwers ahead of Schuna were all members of Division I or II scholarship schools.

The 4x200 meter men's relay team of Adam Sturgis (So.-Bruce), Erik Ferguson (Jr.-Rochester, MN/Dover-Eyota), Jeff Baker (Sr.-Brookfield/Central), and Nick Aliota (Fr.-Brookfield/Central) was in action and just missed advancing to the finals of the event. The team posted a time of 1:29.52 in the preliminary round and was the first team in its heat not to qualify.

Baker, Ferguson, Sturgis, and Jordan Klein (So.-Arcadia) also competed in the 4x100 meter relay preliminary and failed to advance to the finals with a time of 42.81 seconds.

The women's 4x100 meter relay team of Katie Miller (Sr.-Green Bay/Preble), Erin Kokta (Jr.-Brookfield/East), Shalene Huth (Fr.-Appleton/West), and Ashley Nelson (Jr.-Darwin, MN/Litchfield) also failed to advance past the preliminary, posting a time of 49.59 seconds.

The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Melissa Wright (Sr.-Appleton/Kimberly), Kallie Krueger (Sr.-Fall Creek), Jen Stafslien (Jr.-Onalaska/West Salem), and Kristi Hansen (Jr.-Rosemount, MN) also failed to qualify for tomorrow's finals, running the event in a time of 4:03.68.

The Blugolds have two more relay teams in action tomorrow at the Drake Relays, when the women's sprint medley relay team of Stafslien, Krueger, Hansen, and Wright will compete at 10:28 a.m.

The men will have the distance medley relay team of Adam Condit (Jr.-La Crosse/Central), Seth Hoyer (Jr.-Bay City/Ellsworth), Jake Ebner (So.-Cameron) and Ben Schmiege (Sr.-Madison/Lakeside Lutheran) in action at 1:23 p.m.
