SCHUNA, MEN'S AND WOMEN'S RELAYS TO COMPETE AT DRAKE RELAYS
EAU CLAIRE - UW-Eau Claire men's field member John Schuna (Jr.-Hudson) and the women's 4x100, 4x400, and sprint medley relay track teams will compete at the 2004 Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa this weekend.
Schuna will compete in the shot put competition beginning Friday at 11:45 a.m. Schuna's biggest throw this outdoor season came at the Phil Esten Challenge in La Crosse. He took first place in the competition with a throw of 56-8 ¾ (17.29 meters). The throw was an automatic qualification to national competition.
The men will send a 4 x 100 meter relay team consisting of Jeff Baker (Sr.-Brookfield/Central), Erik Ferguson (Jr.-Rochester, MN/Dover-Eyota), Adam Sturgis (So.-Bruce) and Jordan Klein (So.-Arcadia). Nick Aliota (Fr.-Brookfield/Central) will join Sturgis, Ferguson and Baker in the 4 x 200 meter relay.
The Blugold men will also send a distance medley relay consisting of Adam Condit (Jr.-La Crosse/Central), Seth Hoyer (Jr.-Bay City/Ellsworth), Jake Ebner (So.-Cameron) and Ben Schmiege (Sr.-Madison/Lakeside Lutheran).
The women's 4x100 meter relay team includes Ashley Nelson (Jr.-Darwin, MN/Litchfield), Erin Kokta (Jr.-Brookfield/East), Shalene Huth (Fr.-Appleton/West), and Katie Miller (Sr.-Green Bay/Preble). The team took first place at last weekend's Blugold Open in Eau Claire with a time of 49.49 seconds. The preliminaries for the 4x100 meter women's relay will begin at 9:50 a.m. on Friday. Nelson is the current Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for her efforts at the Blugold Open.
The 4x400 meter women's team includes Jen Stafslien (Jr.-Onalaska/West Salem), Kallie Krueger (Sr.-Fall Creek), Kristi Hansen (Jr.-Rosemount, MN), and Melissa Wright (Sr.-Appleton/Kimberly). The team took second place at the Blugold open in a time of 4:04.76. The 4x400 meter relay preliminaries will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The same four from the 4x400 relay team will also compete in the sprint medley relay on Saturday at 10:28 a.m.
