MAREK EXCELS AT BLUGOLD OPEN
EAU CLAIRE - Shaun Marek (Jr.-Waunakee) took first place in two events as the UW-Eau Claire men's track and field team hosted the 2004 Blugold Open here today at Simpson Field.
Marek took first in the long jump with a jump of 21-8 ¾ feet and first in the triple jump with an effort of 45-3 feet. Andy Steuernagel (Sr.-Tomahawk) took first place in the javelin throw with a toss of 166-1 feet.
Ben Schmiege (Sr.-Madison/Lakeside Lutheran), Eric Johnson (So.-Schofield/D.C. Everest) and John Schuna (Jr.-Hudson) all took home second place finishes.
Schmiege took second in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:58.74, Johnson took second in the triple jump with an effort of 44-3 ¼ feet, and Schuna finished second in the shot put with a toss of 55-2 ¾ feet.
The Blugolds will be in action next when they compete in the Simpson Invite Friday. The invite is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
