MEN'S TRACK BEGINS SEASON AT PLATEVILLE OPEN
PLATTEVILLE - The UW-Eau Claire men's track and field team opened the 2004 indoor season at the Platteville Open here today at the Williams Fieldhouse, where no team scores were kept.
The Blugolds claimed five first place finishes, four second place finishes, and five third place finishes on the day.
he Blugolds were particularly strong in the running events, with nine of the teams' 14 top-three finishes coming in either running or relay events. Adam Condit (Jr.-La Crosse/Central) was the only Blugold to finish in the top three in two separate events, taking second in both the 1500 meter run and the 3000 meter run. Adam Koger (Fr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) made his Blugold debut in style, winning the 400 meter dash in a time of 51.59 while the Eau Claire 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams each earned first place.
On the field side of things it was John Schuna (Jr.-Hudson) earning first place honors in the shot put with a throw of 16.61 meters while Chris King (Jr.-Chippewa Falls) took third in the weight throw.
The Blugolds will resume action next Friday at the UWEC Open held at the McPhee Physical Education Center.
