TRACK AND FIELD WRAPS UP SEASON ON POSITIVE NOTE
CANTON, N.Y. - John Schuna (So.-Hudson) notched the best individual performance at the 2003 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championship as he grabbed third place in the shot put competition and all four Blugolds competing on the day earned a spot in the top nine places in the country in their respective events here today at the Merrick-Pinkard Track complex on the St. Lawrence University campus.
Schuna advanced the to finals of the shot put competition with a throw of 56-5 ¾ and earned the second farthest throw in his heat. In the finals the former NCAA champion heaved a toss of 56-11 ½ to finish in third place in the country.
Breanna McMullen (Jr.-Fall Creek) earned the Blugolds second highest individual performance as she grabbed fifth place in the 400-meter hurdles. McMullen covered the distance in 61.71 en rout to the fifth place finish.
Jennifer Stafslien (So.-Onalaska/West Salem) capped off an amazing sophomore season with an eighth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. She accomplished the task with a time of 15.05.
John Brumund-Smith (Sr.-Wauankee) also performed well in his final meet of his collegiate career as he grabbed ninth place in the men's 400-meter hurdle competition. Brumund-Smith finished with a time of 53.47.
n the team portion of the competition, Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member UW-La Crosse won its third straight NCAA Division III Men's Track and Field Outdoor Championship while Wheaton won its third straight women's title.
