LAST YEAR’S CORE RETURNS FOR MEN’S TENNIS

EAU CLAIRE – When the UW-Eau Claire men’s tennis team opens up play this weekend at the ITA Midwest Regional in Saint Peter, MN the squad will be returning an overwhelming majority of last year’s group.

Senior three-time letter-winners from last year’s 15-6 team are Aaron Nordenskjold (Red Wing, MN) and Jeff Peterson (Edina, MN). The 15-6 team played all dual meets and defeated Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) foes two of the three times it played them.

The juniors make up a majority of the team. They include No. 1 singles and doubles competitor Tim Eisele (Apple Valley, MN) along with Erik Brandner (Eau Claire/Memorial), Brandon Buth (Appleton/West), Brett Gressick (De Pere), and C.J. Rose (Lakeville, MN/Apple Valley). All have earned two tennis letters.

Newcomer Phil Loprinzi (Fr.-Rochester, MN/Mayo) joins last year’s No. 1 doubles player Steve Lantz (So.-Rochester, MN/Century) as the only underclassmen. Lantz also earned a letter last season.

Coach Tom Gillman will begin his sixth year as leader of the Blugolds when the serves start flying this weekend.
