Tim Smith will serve as the men’s tennis assistant coach at UW-Eau Claire during the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons while he completes the coursework for a Master of Arts in American history.
The Minnesota native brings 10 years of competitive tennis experience to the Blugold program where he will assist Tom Gillman. Smith played four years of collegiate tennis for former Blugold standout Scott Nesbit at St. Olaf College. His senior year, he earned All-Conference honors in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. While an undergraduate at St. Olaf, Smith also developed a quickness and conditioning program for both the men’s and women’s tennis teams.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree in 2002, Smith served as an assistant coach at Eden Prairie High School and helped mentor a state singles champion in 2003. He then served as an assistant at Roseville High School, working with both the varsity and junior varsity teams. Most recently, he was employed as the senior tennis professional at the Bearpath Country Club and the Flagship Athletic Club, both in Eden Prairie.
Smith is currently a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) member and has a P2 rating.
